Nakama Chapter 11 – Reporting What You’ve Heard About, Indirectly

“I hear/d that,”  ….  ｛NOT 聞きます・ました｝

---------（plain form of verb or adjective）+　そう　です。

Examples:

来年　オークパーク　の　　高校生　は　日本　に　行く　そう　です。

I hear/d  that Oak Park High School students will go to Japan.

先年　の　七月　に　森先生　は　ふじ山　に　のぼった　そう　です。

I hear/d that Mori Sensei climbed Mt. Fuji last July.

パーティー　は　あまり　楽しくなかった　そう　です。

I hear/d that the party wasn’t very enjoyable.

英語で何です　か。

田中さん　は　写真　を　とるのが　きらい　だ　そう　です。

雪の時、シカゴの　こうつうじこ　が　たくさん　あった　そう　です。

母　は　新しい　車　が　あまり　好き　じゃ　ない　そう　です。



Then students should ask 4 fellow students、日本語で、 what they did over the weekend and report with 4 different  --sou desu  そうです sentences.   After answering verbally, write the 4 sentences out in 日本語で.　　Use vocabulary from Nakama.


Be careful not to get confused between 

Adjective (take off last syllable and add そう　です。It means "looks" or "appears".

And complete plain verb or adjective plus そう　です。This means "I heard that" or "(someone) said.

Example:

映画　は　おもしろ　そう　です。The movie looks interesting.

映画　は　おもしろい　そう　です。　I heard that (someone said) the movie is interesting.

Complete above assignment, interviewing fellow students and writing down their answers about what they did over the weekend.  Use the grammatical form そう　です。
