Uses of the plain past affirmative:   ーた・だ
1.Have you ever had the experience....?   ーた・だ　こと　が　あります　か。
2. You had better....    ーた・だ　　ほう　が　いい　です。
3. How about if you.... ー たら　どう　です　か。
4. Doing things like ...   ーたり　－たり　します。
5.  After doing something...   ーた・だ　後　で

Uses of the  te form：－て・で
1.  Asking (and giving) permission...‐て・で　も　いい　です　か。
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　－て・で　は　いい　です。
2.  Polite commands ...  て・で　下さい
3.  "and" joining verbs...    First verb て・で   then last verb...
　　　　　　　　　昨日　食べて飲みました。Yesterday I ate and drank.
4. Continuative-- "is, am, are doing"
