A.    I want a new French book.　新しいフランス語の本　が　ほしい　です。

B.    Can you read a French book?　フランス語　の　本　が　読めます　か。

A.   Yes, I can read (it).　　はい、読めます。

B.   Good.　いい　です。

A.   Would it be OK to buy a French book?　フランス語　の　本　を　買って　も　いい　です　か。

B.   Yes.  You want a book, and/so how about if you go to the old bookstore?
　　はい、いい　です。本がほしくて、古い本や　に　行ったら　どう　です　か。

A. I want to go to the bookstore, but I don’t want to go to the supermarket.　本やに行きたいですが、スーパー　に　行きたくない　です。

B.  That’s OK.  You’d better go to the bookstore.　だいじょうぶ　です。本や　に　行った　ほう　が　いい　です。


　The class will work on memorizing this dialogue and performing it in pairs.



On the board:

Want to do            --- Verb stem + たい　です。

Want a thing          --- が　ほしい　です。

Potential  --            －－が　－－える、られる、えます、られます
”Can, able to"

Asking permission 　－－て　も　いい　です　か。

Gentle suggestion       ----たら　どう　です　か。
”How about if you"

Less polite suggestion 　－－た　ほう　が　いい　です。



New verb, "to become":　　なる　なります
Thing に　なります。
I want to become a doctor.　（お）いしゃ（さん）に　なりたい　です。

To be hungry (“stomach empties)                  おなか　が　すく

　　　私　は　おなか　が　すきました。“My stomach emptied” in other words, I am hungry.

To be full (“stomach full‘)                                 おなか　が　いっぱい

　　　たくさん　食べて　おなか　が　いっぱい　です。I ate/eat a lot and my stomach is full.

To be thirsty (“throat dries out“)                   のど　が　かわく

            エミさん、のど　か　かわくて　お水　を　飲んだら　どう　です　か。　Emi, your throat is dry and so how about drinking water?

To become                                                            （に）なる、なります　

　　　子供の時　私　は　バレリーナ　に　なりたかった　です。When I was a child, I wanted to become a ballerina.

Mr. Morita said he wants to become a teacher.

            森田さん　は　先生　に　なりたい 　と　言いました。

I heard that Amanda will become a doctor.

            アマンダさん　は　いしゃ　に　なる　そう　です。
