卯年　兎年　　Year of the Rabbit

目的　Objective/Purpose：Relational particles,　思い出（Memories）,  

けいけん（Experiences）、空想/くうそう/daydream; fantasy; fancy; vision

ワームアップ      The tricky thing about relational particles is that most of them have more than one use. 

の　　　Possessive – like apostrophe s – also “of”

は　　　Indicates subject

を　　　Indicates direct object

に　　　①   Special usage with のります、のぼります、

　　　　　　あいます、instead of を

　　　　②　Indicates destination in sentences with “traveling

　　　　　　verbs” like　行きます、来ます、帰ります

　　　　③　Indicates indirect objects, when you do something

                            for/towards someone  父は私にてがみをかいた

で　　　①  ”By means of” some transport like a train or a car

　　　　②　Indicates ”Place” where action happens (“active verb”)

が　　　①　“But” between two complete clauses

           　   ②　Used in は・が　Pattern sentences when describing 　

　　　　　　people or discussing likes/dislikes.  

                                        私は目が青いです。I have blue eyes.

と　　　①　”And” when you’ve mentioned all the possible items

                  ②　When you do something ”With/Accompanying” someone else

や　　　“And” when you have not mentioned some possible items

Read the explanations above, and write the correct relational particle in each blank.

学生　は　お母さん＿＿あさごはん　を　作りました。（For her）

日本で　東京（とうきょう）＿＿京都（きょうと）に　行きました。（But I also went to other cities.）

サンくんはガヴィンくん＿＿スターバーでコーヒーを飲んだ。（With）

デパートの買いもの＿＿きらいですが、本を買うのが好きだ。

先生はバス＿＿のりませんでしたが、車＿＿＿学校に来た。

大きい犬はお水＿＿飲んだ。

うちの母＿＿パン＿＿チーズを食べた。（Only those two items）。
