“In Japan, faith leaders pray for an end to the pandemic.”  I saw this item of information the other day.
When you click on this link, you will see not only the article about this event but also a photograph of Todaiji Temple in Nara.  I believe that it is the largest wooden building in the world.

I find it so impressive that these faith leaders are performing, and will perform, this religious act together, despite their religious differences.  This is one of the things I admired most when I first went to Japan: religious toleration.  Buddhism and Shinto coexist peacefully, side by side, and many people have connections to both.  There is a small minority of Christians (about 1.5%, I think), with churches in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe, Nagasaki, and many other places.  Islam and Judaism also have places of worship. All these groups seem to get along peacefully in Japan, without regarding each other as “enemy.”  As a person from a mixed Christian and Jewish background (with a serious interest in Buddhism), I found this comforting.

Tōdai-ji (東大寺, Eastern Great Temple) is a Buddhist temple complex that was once one of the powerful Seven Great Temples, located in the city of Nara, Japan. Though it was originally founded in the year 738 CE, Todai-ji was not opened until the year 752 CE.
