休けい時間 きゅうけい じかん
令和2年5月11日 月曜日
Yesterday was Mother’s Day in Japan as well as here in the U.S. Here is what I was taught to write on a
Mother’s Day card, there. Gratitude is
essential!
「母の日おめでとう
お母さん、ありがとう」
“Happy Mother’s Day!
Thank you, Mother.”
On Mother’s Day, I always think of my mother and grandmother, of
course, but I also think of my “Mother-in-Japan,” whose name was Mrs. Tamae
Honda. I treasure memories of her.
本田玉江、お母さん、ありがとう
Many churches, synagogues, Buddhist temples, and mosques are closed
now, of course, but when people are able to participate in person again,
we/they will probably have to continue to wear masks. With that in mind, I share the item below.
For people who are interested in origami and are (maybe) running out
of face masks, here are directions for making masks out of paper towels!!

Japanese 3-4
You
will be doing the class assignments created by Yoko Schmadeke Sensei from now
on. Send them /post them to me, however,
as I will be grading them in Skyward.
Japanese 5-6
New grammar point for today:
Nakama Chapter 11 – Reporting What You’ve
Heard About, Indirectly
This expression helps make it
clear that information comes not from your personal experience, but from what
has been told to you by others. Using this form, you can talk and write
about what other people have told you.
“I hear/heard that,” …. {NOT 聞きます・ました}
---------(plain form of verb
or adjective)+ そう です。
Examples:
来年 オークパーク の 高校生 は ロシア に 行く そう です。
I hear/d that Oak Park
High School students will go to Russia.
先年 の 七月 に 森先生 は ふじ山 に のぼった そう です。
I hear/d that Mori Sensei climbed Mt. Fuji last July.
パーティー は あまり 楽しくなかった そう です。
I hear/d that the party wasn’t very enjoyable.
[Please continue learning the vocabulary, kanji, and grammar from Chapter 11 of Nakama. We are looking toward a final project of a
memoir about childhood memories. The
assignment below will give you some idea of the kind of 作文sakubun you will write. (There will be no final exam.) You will receive more details soon.]
