Yesterday was Mother’s Day in Japan as well as here in the U.S.  Here is what I was taught to write on a Mother’s Day card, there.  Gratitude is essential!

「母の日おめでとう

お母さん、ありがとう」

“Happy Mother’s Day!

Thank you, Mother.”

On Mother’s Day, I always think of my mother and grandmother, of course, but I also think of my “Mother-in-Japan,” whose name was Mrs. Tamae Honda.  I treasure memories of her.

Many churches, synagogues, Buddhist temples, and mosques are closed now, of course, but when people are able to participate in person again, we/they will probably have to continue to wear masks.  With that in mind, I share the item below.

Nakama Chapter 11 – Reporting What You’ve Heard About, Indirectly

 This expression helps make it clear that information comes not from your personal experience, but from what has been told to you by others.　Using this form, you can talk and write about what other people have told you.

“I hear/heard that,”  ….  ｛NOT 聞きます・ました｝

---------（plain form of verb or adjective）+　そう　です。

Examples:

来年　オークパーク　の　　高校生　は　ロシア　に　行く　そう　です。

I hear/d  that Oak Park High School students will go to Russia.

先年　の　七月　に　森先生　は　ふじ山　に　のぼった　そう　です。

I hear/d that Mori Sensei climbed Mt. Fuji last July.

パーティー　は　あまり　楽しくなかった　そう　です。

I hear/d that the party wasn’t very enjoyable.
