Nakama Ch 7 pages 200-202  You will notice that the verbs are in a new form, the “dictionary form,” which we’ll talk about.  The “dictionary form” is the plain/informal present, affirmative tense.  It’s like the “infinitive” in えい語。All “dictionary forms” end in an “u” vowel sound, just as all neutral-polite present affirmative forms end in “masu.”

どうぶつえん（Zoo）デパート　の　うりば　の　人は　いそがしい。　どうして？。　(おきゃくさま｛（Customers｝は　どうぶつ（Animals）だ。）The people for the Zoo Department Store counters (departments) are busy.  Why?  (the customer4s are animals.)

　

ありくい（Anteater） は　高い　かばん　を　もって　いる。　The Anteater has (is holding_ an expensive bag.

海牛（かいぎゅう）Manatee, “sea cow”）） は　魚　の　青い プール　で　およいで　いる。The manatee is swimming in the fish's blue pool. 

カンガルー　は　ぶんぼうぐ　うりば　で　じしょ　を　二　さつ　買って　いる。The kangaroo is buying two (volumes of) dictionaries at the stationery department.

猫（ねこ）と　犬（いぬ）は　上ぎ（うあぎ）　を　見て　いる。The cat and the dog are looking at light jackets.

針鼠（はりねずみHedgehog, “needle mouse”）の　ネクタイ　 は　古い（ふるい）から　小さくて　新しい（あたらしい）　ネクタイ　を　たくさん　買うの　が　好き　だ。The hedgehog's necktai is old, therefore he likes to buy small, new neckties.

音楽（おんがく）の　うりば　で　牛（うし）は　シーディー　を　聞いて　いる。The cow is listening to CDs at the music counter.

そして　デパート　の　人は　シーディー　を　三　枚（まい）出して（だして）いる。　And the department person (clerk) is getting out 3 CDｓ。
