Comparisons   Read the sentences below.

ニュウジーランド　　に　　火山（かざん）が　あります。There is a volcano in New Zealand.  なまえ（地名ちめい）　は　ホワイト・アイランド　です。It’s name is “White Island.”　火山　は　あぶない（Dangerous）です。Volcanoes are dangerous.

火山　と　つなみ　と　どちら　の　ほう　が　あぶない　です　か。Between volcanoes and tidal waves, which (direction) is more dangerous?

つなみ　の　ほう　が　あぶない　です。Tidal waves are more dangerous.

Now you try it!

Between apples and oranges, which is more delicious?  Oranges are more delicious.

Between basketball and baseball, which is more difficult?  Basketball is more difficult.

Between jazz and rock, which is more enjoyable?  Rock is more enjoyable.

Between homework and tests, which is more terrible?  Tests are more terrible.

A. With a partner, figure out how to say this dialogue　日本語　で。　それから　いしょ　に　日本語で　言って下さい。(Nakama Ch. 8 p.p.245, 246.)

おきゃくさま：　Excuse me, but is this place the third floor?

てんいん：　　　Yes, this (here) is the men’s clothing department. Welcome/may I help
                                       you?

    

おきゃくさま：　Well, my best (most liked) friend is wearing a coat.  However, he likes 
                                      to wear sweaters. Please show me a sweater.

てんいん：　         Which does he like better, red sweaters or blue sweaters?

おきゃくさま：     He likes red sweaters better, but among all sweaters, he likes

 green sweaters best。Is it OK to look at green sweaters?

てんいん：              Here are 2 green sweaters.  The long sweater is 10,000 yen

　　　　　　　　and the short sweater is 5,000 yen.

おきゃくさま：     Please give me the short one.  It's a birthday present,  

 so/therefore it’s something-to-send.  

てんいん：              I have understood.  I am putting the sweater in a box,

　　　　　　　　and I am wrapping it.  There is also sales tax.  In all, that will be

           5,500 yen.

おきゃくさま：     Is it OK to use a credit card? 

てんいん：              Yes．Thank you very much.
