Spring Haiku by Basho --    英語で何ですか。どう思いますかYou may look things up in jisho.org on your ChromeBooks.   Afterwards discuss how translations might be different.

行く春や     いく はる は

鳥啼魚の     とり なき うお の

目は泪      め は なみだ 

 

A. Go to Classroom and find the link for the Flipgrid asslignment and directions for what is required.  Work with your partner to  practice your dialogue.  When you feel ready, you may record it in the hall.  I must be able to see your faces as you make the recording.

 

B.  Honorific language – 敬語 けいご

(Postponed from yesterday)

さし上げる  (さしあげる)  We give to one above us in hierarchy

               私は校長先生(こうちょうせんせいThe principal)に花をさ

   さし上げましたI gave flowers to the Principal.

下さる  (くださる)Someone above us gives to us

   大名(だいみょうFeudal lord of a province)は家の母(は

    は)にかたな(Sword)を 下さいましたThe Daimyo

                    gave my mother a sword.

いただく        We receive from someone above us in hierarchy

    この高校は市長(しちょうThe mayor)から賞金(しょう

    きんMonetary award)をいただきましたThis high school

           received a monetary award from the Mayor

 

Write the correct giving/receiving verb, at the appropriate honorific level, for each situation.

President Obama gave me a gold star.   __________

I received a book from my friend.__________

My father gave a bicycle to his older brother.________

Our class gave candy to our math teacher.________

My brother received a car from the next-door neighbor.___________

My sister gave me a scarf. ______________
