How to talk about things that actually ARE HAPPENING , right now: 

use the te form of the main verb and add います。(Some authorities call this “the continuative tense,” some call it “the progressive tense,” and the Nakama calls it “describing a resultant state” on page 328.)

Examples: 

母　は　フォーク　を　つかって　います。(My) mother is using a fork.

友達　は　宿題　を　して　います。(My) friend is doing homework.

下　の　文書　を　英語　で　書いて　下さい。

①  　今日　学生　は　勉強　して　います。

②  　今　父　は　新聞　を　読んで　います。

③  　あね　は　寝て　います。

④  　あに　は　音楽　を　聞いて　います

⑤  　先生　の　おばあさん　は　りょうり　を　して　います。

Caller:　いま　何　を　して　います　か。
You:　８かい　で　ピザ　を　食べて　います。
　　　７かい　で　音楽（おんがく）の　シーディー　を　買って　います。

Write sentences for floors ６, ５, ４, ３, ２, and 1 similar to the answers for 7th and 8th floors above.  Use a different verb for each floor.

(See Chapter 9 漢字のシート and Nakama Ch. 9, 280, 295,296 ページ) 　 Choose 1 partner in class and then. Together, pretend to call one of our 松陽高校Shouyou Koukou exchange students on the phone（for example,　田中けい or 田中けん）at the OPRF host family’s home (for example, the Smith family スミスさんの　おたく). Invite him or her to dinner at a restaurant. Work out the conversation below 日本語で, making alterations, if you wish, and then practice your dialogue below, after writing it out together.

You:                          Hello, is this the Smith residence?

Mr. Smith:  Yes, I am Smith.

You:                          Is Tanaka Kei(ko) [or Ken] there?

Mr. Smith:  Please wait a moment.

Tanaka K:             Hello, this is Tanaka K.

You:                          Hi K.  How are you?

K:                   I’m well, thanks.  I enjoyed Saturday’s Japan Festival.

You:               Me too.  Would you like to go to a restaurant to eat?

K:                   Yes, thank you.  When?

You:                          How about tomorrow’s dinner ? 

K:                   Tomorrow is a little bit inconvenient.  How about Friday?

You:               Tomorrow you’re busy?  OK.  Friday is good.  What kind of

food do you like?

K:                   I like (Italian, Chinese, French, American, Japanese, etc.)

You:                          Thank you.  Let’s meet at the high school and go together by car

 to “Green Cat General Restaurant.”

K:                   I’m looking forward to it.  (楽しみ　に　して　います。)　What

                        shall we order?

You:              We’ll order various foods.  Let’s make it curry rice, spaghetti,

                        sandwiches, sushi, and ice cream

K:                   Oh my!  (あら)　Great!  Let’s go on Friday.  Good-bye.
