 plain past affirmative                                           dictionary form

                                                                                     できる is the potential form of する

Example:　　　　　　　　　　　　　　Example:

おどった　こと　が　あります　か。　　　　　　　　おどる　ことが　できます　か。

Have you ever danced?                                      Are you able to dance?

上　の　ノート　を　読んで　下さい。　　それから　下　の　ぶんしょ　を　英語で　書いて下さい。

Are you able to ride a horse?                 Have you ever cried at school?

When you are sick, are you able to laugh?

Is it OK (may I) to sing in church?       Can you drink coffee at night?

Examples:

先生は、フランス語　が　できます。　Sensei can (speak) French.

私は、サッカー　が　できません。　　I can’t (do/play) soccer.

日本語で書いて下さい。　書く　こと　が　できます　か。

My friend can (speak) Japanese.

The girl can （play）do basketball.

The Russian person can （speak） Russian and French (etc.).

Ski-ing is difficult, but can you do ski-ing?

I can speak German a little, but I can’t speak Spanish.
