My little brother can’t go out this weekend.
　　今週　の　しゅうまつ　おとうと　は　でかけられません。

Can the children get up at 5 a.m.?

　　ごぜん（午前）五時　に　子供　は　起きられます　か。

I can watch television every day.    (careful:  見る is irregular in the potential form)

　　まい日　私　は　テレビ　が　見えます。

My friend’s ears are bad （耳がとおい）, therefore she can’t hear the radio.

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 (聞く is irregular in the potential form)
　　友達　は　耳　が　とおい　から　ラジオ　が　聞こえません。

My mother can’t take a shower at my house.
　　母　は　私　の　うち　で　シャワー　が　あびられません。

Note:

Group 2 見ます    is irregular in the potential form――見えます（見える）

Group 1 聞きます  is irregular in the potential form ――聞こえます（聞こえる）

Nakama Chapter 12          Potential Forms of Group 1 Verbs

Instead of writing 行く　こと　が　できます　to express the meaning, “can/able to go,”  you can use the potential conjugational form.

For Group 1 verbs, it’s easy.  Replace the “i” syllable before the “masu” with the “e” syllable from the same hiragana row.

Examples:

行きます　　Becomes   　  行けます　　In the potential form.

読みます　　　　　　　　 読めます

うたいます　　　　　　　 うたえます
