AFTER TODAY, DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, USE GOOGLE TRANSLATE OR ANY OTHER TRANSLATION SITE ONLINE.
Consequences:
1. you will produce a terrible Japanese document -- full of errors in grammar and vocabulary
2. it will be obvious to me that you used a translation website because you will be using grammatical forms that you haven't studied yet
3. you will be penalized for cheating -- use of a translation website for an assignment in a world language class constitutes plaigiarism
Several sets of students performed their original dialogues. The following notes were given --
1. Kamran and Emanual -- must use complete sentences -- must say moshi moshi on the phone when they say "hello" -- need complete sentences -- must address each other with some kind of honorific like kun or san -- need much more practice -- "what kind of car" is donna kuruma -- practice verbally many many times
2. Eddie and Hevannli -- need much more practice -- don't say "am going" in Japanese the way you would in English (don't use itte imasu) -- dialogue must be longer -- practice verbally many many times
3. Freya and Kenzo -- you don't address a younger brother as Otouto-san, though the younger brother must address the older sister as Onee-san -- use complete sentences, not single words, in the conversation. If you are saying tabete imasu, you should also say nonde imasu -- practice verbally many many times
4. Kayla and Brandon -- DON'T USE GOOGLE TRANSLATE -- uchi NI kaerimasu, not uchi DE kaerimasu -- practice verbally many many times -- practice verbally many many times
Homework:
1. for tomorrow --Continue working on dialogues
