Purpose:  to go (come, return home, etc.) IN ORDER to do something

Pattern:   Verb-stem   に      traveling verb　(go, come, return home, etc.)

(The verb-stem is what you get when you take the  ます    off any neutral-polite verb： 食べます・食べ　　書きます・書き)

食べ　に in order to eat、書き　にin order to write, etc.

Examples:

I will go to the library (in order) to read books.

本　を　読み　に　としょかん　に　行きます。

(My) friend came to the department store (in order) to buy underwear.

友達　は　デパート　に　下ぎ　を　買い　に　来ました。
