May 28, 2016 -- Saturday
平成二十八年五月二十八日 -- 土曜日

Bake sale to raise funds for the Japan Exchange, departing June 10, 2016 for Akita's Prefectural Noshiro Shouyou High School.

Location:  Pilgrim Church parking lot on Lake, as part of the Farmers' Market

Attending:
The teachers were  -- Schmadeke Sensei, Kimmel Sensei, Mertz Sensei
Some of the parents were -- Momo's parents, Kiara's parents, Tyra's Dad, Bradley's Dad, Alex M.'s parents (and others)
Some of the students were -- Chio, Momo, Bradley, Jordan, Kiara, Tyra, Chanti, Mia, Liam K., Adam, Maeve, Alex M., Nadirah, すてきな (attractive) Ben, ハンサムな (handsome) Ben  (and more!)

Students set up and did the selling.  In spite of clouds and occasional sprinkles, the students raised more than $1,300!  Food items (authentically home made) were dangerously delicious: rustic bread, chocolate covered oreos, assorted cookies, cinnamon bread, various kinds of cupcakes, even yummy-looking dog treats, and so on and so on.  Students sold vouchers for OPRF HS ninja t-shirts and then delivered the shirts from the lawn of Pilgrim Church.

Computer lab lesson -- students worked on their upcoming oral portion of the final. Final May 2016  -- oral portion---Song project –

Music is very important in Japanese culture.  Everyone in Japanese schools takes music class, and Japan has a huge music industry.
As you know, the scantron and writing portions for the final will take place on the last two days of the normal schedule.  For the oral portion of the final, on the actual exam day, you must bring a real Japanese song, in Japanese, that you have chosen. You must sing at least 3 verses in Japanese, supplying Sensei with a typewritten page listing the internet or print sources you used and the lyrics in both Japanese and English (Googling “Japanese songs with lyrics and English translation” may help you).  You must also write down, and tell us verbally, why you like your song and why you chose it. You should plan on singing for (at least) 90 seconds. [One verse of the Noshiro Shoyo school song takes 45 seconds.]  Songs from Miyazaki Hayao films  (Tonari no Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, etc.) are acceptable.  Please check with me about your choice during the week before exam week.
I won’t be grading the quality of your voice or your ability to carry a tune.  You can speak or chant in rhythm if you don’t feel comfortable singing.  The grade will be based on how completely you fulfil the assignment as explained above.  You should memorize the song.  If you can’t memorize it, you may read it, though your grade won’t be quite so high.
Second year students last year did very well on this oral final assignment.  This year we can have snacks after everyone finishes.

You might also consider songs sung by these famous singers:
