A.   Reported speech/information　――　Plain form　そうです、そうだ。Translated as “I heard” or “they say” or “it is said that,” et cetera.

たとえば：きのう友達はさしみを食べたそうです。

　　　　Yesterday （my） friend ate sashimi, they say.
