Asynchronous Learning and Assignment for Sept. 11, 2020

 Dear Students,

Today will be an asynchronous learning day.  That is, you will receive assignments to work on, but I won’t be teaching in real time on Google Meets.  You will need to post at least one of your assignments to Google Classroom during class time, however.

The first thing you will need to do is to go the list of katakana names for students in this class.  Within 10 minutes of the beginning of class, you must post your name in katakana, written 3 times, on Google Classroom.

Note:  Katakana represents pronunciation of a foreign word, NOT spelling.  It’s possible that Yoko Sensei wrote your katakana name slightly differently, since she and I may hear your name slightly differently.  If you prefer her katakana spelling, you may of course use it.  Write on the lines below.

The next thing you will do is to read the two articles posted, one about Japanese-American tennis star, Naomi Osaka, and the other about the BLM movement in Japan.  Both articles, in different ways, show how the events of the past summer have affected not only the U.S., but Japan as well (and the whole world).

I want you to write, in English, 4 paragraphs of at least 4 sentences each (16 sentences total), about what you learned from the articles.  Then post what you have written to Google Classroom.  If you can’t finish before the end of class, you may hand this in as homework later in the day.

If you have questions, by all means email me.  crkimmel@oprfhs.org
