Now write each word in a sentence that suggests its meaning.  Use Nakama to look for vocabulary. Try to make each sentences as relevant as possible.

Nakama Chapter 6 – Pingu the Penguin   (わかります か)

ピングは、まじめな(Serious, diligent) ペンギン でした。


なつやすみ の まい日 (に) ごりょうしん の うち の そうじ を しました。


ごりょうしん は とても うれしかった ですよ。(Were happy)


でも、ピング は せんたく を しませんでした。


日曜日 に ごりょうしん は うち で しんぶん や ざっし を 読みました。


ピング は スポーツ が すき じゃ ありませんでした が (But) うんどう を しました。


ピング の いもうと さん は ピンガ でした。


ピンガ は バス で 7-11 の アルバイト に 行きまました。


時々(ときどき)ピンガ は いのしし(Wild boar)の ともだち  に おもしろい てがみ を 書きました。



In response to questions about "small tsu," the following was written on the 白板(しろばん):

”Small tsu" makes the consonant after it into a double consonant.

Examples:

がっこう   Gakkou    school
みっつ    Mittsu        3 ("indigenous numbers")
いっさい   Issai         1 year old (for a person)
はっぴ    Happi         festival jacket

Nakama Chapter 6 – some notes on relational particles
(work in progress)

は       Indicates the topic/subject of a sentence
                    Example:  あの ざっし は あたらしい ざっし です。

を   Indicates a direct object in a sentence with an active verb (like見ます)
      Example:  きのう えいが を 見ました。

で   a. “By means of” some tool or method of transportation or language
              Example: 学生 は じてんしゃ で 学校 に きました。
                                    ともだち は フォーク で スパゲッティ を 
       食べました。

                  b. Indicates the place where an action (verb) happens.
                      Example: 先生は ともだち の うち で ラジオを 
         聞きました。

と   a. “With, accompanying” (usually) a person
     Example: 私 は 先生 と きょうしつ を そうじ 
         しました。

    b. “And” between nouns (closed series)
     Example: うち に いぬ と ねこ が います。
                                            Meaning that the cat and the dog are the only living
                                             things in the house.


や              “And” between nouns (open series)
                        Example:  私は 本 や ざっし を 読みます。
        I read books and magazines, etc. (and other things.) 

に    a. “To” a destination 
         (when used with a ‘traveling verb’ like 行きます。
                        Example: みなさん、日本 に 行きました か。


                    b. Person “to whom” (indirect object)
          Example: ケンくん は いもうとさん に てがみ を 
          書きました。

      c. “For, on the occasion of” some event
                          Example:  あさごはん に コーヒー を 飲みました か。

     d. Indicates location in a sentence with an existence verb 
        like あります。     
       Example: きょうしつ に つくえ や いす が 
        あります。

      e. Indicates a specific time (with a name or a number) when
                               something happens. 
                             Example: 九月 の 土曜日 に やきゅう を します。

から   a. “From” a place
      Example:  なおみさん は オーストリア  から きました。
     
     b. “Therefore” in a sentence with a cause and an effect/result.
      Example: さむい です から 私 は 車(くるま)で 
                          かえります。

からーーまで “From” a time/place “until/up to” a time/place
      Example: あの デパート は ごぜん 九時 から 
                 ごご 八時 まで です。

も     a. “Also, too” after a noun
        Example: きょうねん 私 は フランス語 を 
          べんきょう しました。 ドイツ語 も 
          べんきょう しました。

      b. “Both/and” with nouns

       Example: あに は クッキー も ホットケーキ 
            も 作りました。
