       ZERO (or rei or maru, for zero) is written in kanji in a circle, not an oval

II. Continue GOJIRA　ゴジラ　 story

Gojira came from RAGOS-shima　ラゴスしま　から　きました

HARO.KITI 　ハローキティ　came from Akihabara　あきはばら　, in Tokyo　とうきょう　の

They met in Tijuana メキシコ　の　ティフアナ.　

Then Gojira went to the Bahamas  バハマ.

He ran はしりました from the Bahamas to New York, and Hello Kitty traveled by plane (hikouki ひこうき　で)

Yesterday　じゅびｙ　 Gojira ate New York　ニューヨーク　を　食べました.

Then he and Hello Kitty went to Chicago　シカゴ.

In Chicago, Gojira got up at 7 o-clock.

He will buy earphones　イアーフォン at Radio Shack.　ラジオ・シャック

Hello Kitty will go to Macy's and buy clothing  ようふく (youfuku)

Tomorrow あした　Hello Kitty will see a Brad Pitt movie.

Gojira will listen to Death Metal music デス・メタル　の　おんがく　with earphones.

Gojira will drink Lake Michigan　　ミシガンこ　を　飲みます。

Hevannli, Jack (ガミ), and Nick (アフロ) made real efforts to tell the story in Japanese, when called upon to do so.

After the usual opening with greeting, verbs, and numbers (counting by "6" was one adaptation), students worked on reading and writing kanji numbers in practical contexts, as prices on items that are commonly bought in stores.  This took some time. The price of a pencil, for example, was 十五円 (15 yen) on the handout.  In response to a question by Riley, Sensei wrote on the board "one hundred million," いち　おく、一億.


New kanji were written on the board:

Students practiced writing each one at least 10 times.


Subsequently, the class continued to consider and add to the communal story about ゴジラ.  With this story the class is practicing verb tenses, past and non-past.

II.  Students worked on a handout that taught how to write numbers.  They looked at pages 267, 268, and 269 in the text as they did so.  The numbers were  一、　二、　三、　四、　五、　六、　七、　八、　九、　十、　百、　千、　万、　円（えん　the unit of Japanese money）


III.  Students listened to a final dictation, practicing the カタカナ　vocabulary and existence/location sentences with nouns of location/position and the verbs of existence, います、あります。

After attendance was taken, and after students practiced verbs and numbers while doing ラジオたいそう-like actions, the first activity was distribution of a 2-sided sheet of paper, 11" by 17", with  カタカナ　words for drawings for countries and for things in a bedroom.  The students' assignment was to write each word first in ROMAji, and then in actual English.

The katakana practice sheet (both sides) and the sentences above constitute review for a test reviewing katakana and the material in Nakama Chapter 3.  Originally scheduled for 月曜日、this test will instead take place on 火曜日。

Complete the transliteration and translation of all the カタカナ words on the handout, and answer the 10  しつもん above in complete 日本語 sentences、.


**Note:  Students were invited to guess the meaning of the カタカナ word  ベルモット , but they actually didn't guess; they cheated by using their cell phones to look it up.

   c. what kind of windows they are

   d. what's near the window

   e. what kind of thing is on the right side of the room

   f. what kind of thing is on the left side of the room

   g. what is near the door
